IAHSP Community Worldwide Staging Service Week
Project:
The Greater Sacramento Chapter came together during our Service Week to give to the Ronald McDonald House of Sacramento. As this House was already in great “Staging” shape, we decided to use the list that they provided and collect as many donations of goods as possible.
Our Chapter collected and donated food, books, laundry items, kitchen items, dishes, silverware, VCR’s, family movies, and money. Kelsey Eggleston, daughter of ASP Cheri Eggleston, even went out on her own soliciting donations, yielding an entire van full of goods.
On top of that, our Chapter is “adopting” a family for a year – a huge help with costs for the Ronald McDonald House. Several of the Chapter members also adopted families.
The local representative, Jeff Lovelace, of Nationwide Floor and Window is helping out by working and coordinating with the House to replace some flooring that has begun to bubble up due to vapor issues and our funds are being allocated toward that project.
After the Chapter brought its donations, we were given a tour of the complex and we were able to get a behind-the-scenes peek of the daily goings-on of the House.
Overall, our Chapter members felt really good about who we gave our resources to. This Ronald McDonald House is booked every single night with families in need. Sadly, they must turn away some as they cannot possibly house every family that comes to them. Our donations will help to ease the burdens of the families as well as those at the House providing care.
