The AZ Regional IAHSP Chapter had chosen "The Lost Boys Center"  as the reciepient of our project this year. The Lost Boys Center is a community center that helps the refugees from Sudan that were forced out of their communities due to the Civil War. Many of these young men were 5 and 6 years old when they had to flee without there parents, who were either enslaved or killed. They traveled thousands of miles, a distance from Chicago to Florida, barefoot and hardly clothed to reach the refugee camps in Ethiopia. That's when the US embassy decided to help many of the boys and flew them to different parts of the US. About 300 Lost Boys and women came to Phoenix and The Lost Boys Center is where they can get together as a community.

We decided to stage the entire facility, about 3,000 sq ft. The entry way, game room, bathrooms, conference room, kitchen, workshop room, and offices were all staged. We recieved $29,000 worth of donations from local suppliers. The Chapter raised $1200 for the event to purchase accessories. There was 352 total people hours worked on the project. We had a muralist come in and paint a mural on the largest wall in the facility. It showed their journey and when they came to America and how they have grown in their hope for the future. The Lost Boys, now men, said that it is the only living picture testimony of their lives and journey. What I think we all realized is that we are helping a generation that will take what they have learned here in America back to Sudan to help that generation become more knowledgeable for the future.
