IAHSP Community Worldwide Staging Service Week
Project:
The Orange County IAHSP Regional Chapter raised over $3,000.00 cash and almost $4,500.00 in donations of goods and services to “Stage” the Great Room of Mary’s Shelter in Tustin, CA. The Great Room is the most frequently used room in the house. It consists of an Entry Area, Baby Chaning Area, Child Care/Recreation Area, Kitchen and Dining Area. The project was a huge success. Our chapter effectively pooled our creative talents and transformed the shelter Great Room into a warm and cheerful place to live.
Mary’s Shelter is a state licensed not-for-profit home, that provides comprehensive residential care in a loving, supportive environment for pregnant minors who are in a homeless or other crisis situation and have committed to carry their babies to full term.
The project planning process began in February 2007. Volunteer ASP Project Managers created project area Staging Plans, managed shopping budgets and lead project teams. Chapter members sold $5.00 Carnival Cruise raffle tickets, donated items to be sold on ebay and made personal monetary donations to raise the funds needed to purchase items for the project.
With these funds we raised, we were able to accomplish tasks and purchase special items to make the project a success. We purchased a custom stencil with the name and logo of the Shelter. The beautiful custom design now greets guests as they arrive at the shelter. We were also able to professionally dry clean the curtains and have the Great Room professionally cleaned. Some of the additional items we were able to purchase are the following:
art, entry bench & cushions, coat rack, rugs, organizational baskets, wall mirror, toys, slipcovers, throw pillows and blankets, DVD player and DVD’s, dry erase and cork boards, bar stools, table ware, table top décor, ceiling fan and light, decorative accessories.

Thank you all so very much for the beautiful job you all did creating such a beautiful space for our teen mothers to call home. I know it took months of planning and coordinating and soliciting, buy you also seemed to have fun putting it all together on Saturday.
From the staff perspective, we really appreciate everything. From the thorough cleaning, new carpet, furniture covers, organization of clutter, the ceiling fan and attractive wall treatments.
When the girls arrived home they said, “Wow, this is classy”!, “how pretty”, “look at these baskets”, “the entry looks great”, “how nice”.
I just wish I could show you their smiles…
