IAHSP Community Worldwide Staging Service Week
Project:
The Great Lakes Regional IAHSP Chapter of Michigan has selected the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit, Charities of Southeast Michigan, as their benefactor for the second consecutive year. Our 2007 World Wide Staging Service Week Project, September 10th – 15th, will transform the office and lobby areas with renovations to create warm and inviting areas for families as they enter the Ronald McDonald House.
Our goal this year is to update the 1978 original office and lobby areas where families check-in to stay at the house. We are planning storage solutions, updating cabinets, desks, chairs, lamps and art to create a comfortable lobby area to feel like home, using current soothing, popular colors and textures. “We want to create a “homey” feeling, the Ronald McDonald House is considered “A Home Away From Home” and we want to create that feeling for the families as soon as they enter the Ronald McDonald House for the first time” says Carolyn Stieger, Great Lakes Regional IAHSP Chapter President.
We know from working with the Executive Director Jennifer Litomisky last year, families are under tremendous stress for their child’s health concerns; we want to help make a difference with a fresh, pleasant entrance and office working area where families will be greeted while their child is being treated at Children’s Hospital. “Our Ronald McDonald House is only 100 steps from Detroit’s Children’s Hospital, so families can stay close to their child while they take a few minutes for a bite to eat, make phone calls, take showers or maybe even gets some much needed rest”, says Litomisky. Whether a family stays one night, one week, one month or even a year, Ronald McDonald House is Your Home Away from Home!
As our Great Lakes Regional IAHSP Chapter has grown, we have decided to expand our World Wide Staging Service Week with an extra project for the Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor. Families with children receiving treatment at Mott Children’s Hospital of the University of Michigan can stay at the Ann Arbor Ronald McDonald House, over 600 families each year travel and stay at the house during their child’s treatment and care. We are happy to be able to include the Ann Arbor location this year to our community service projects. We will be finding solutions to one of the family bedrooms rooms adding and refreshing the room with new bedding, bath towels, accessories, floral arrangements and art, we are happy to Stage a bedroom for the house.
