Washington, DC Chapter
The day’s success far exceeded our expectation! With a budget of $700.00, we completely transformed the home and the life of Mother/Son Team, Abby and Brooke Grant.
Abby and her thirteen year old son entered a special program with the non-profit organization, “Home Stretch” that provides housing to the homeless while they are guided through a program in which they can become independent citizens. After meeting with Abby, it was clear to see that she is a woman of elegance, dignity and grace, adjusting to a new way of life after being abandoned by her husband. It was obvious that the current condition of her home did not reflect the woman that she is or the woman that she is becoming. Her heart ached for deep, rich colors and an atmosphere in which she could hold her head high and know she was worthy of all the goodness that life has to offer.
Stagers Tracy Griffin, Heather Harrell, Deb Gorham, Elaine Quigley, Gwyn Thorne, Cindy DiPalma, Alison Justice, Jaynee Acavedo, Karen Ricciardi and Lynn Chavalier showed up with their creativity, enthusiasm and items from their personal inventory to elevate Abby’s image of herself by elevating the space that encompasses her. With a general plan in mind, every stager seemed to be self directed and able to push the project along as though they could read the minds of everyone in the home. With the absence of just one stager, the extraordinary outcome would have been drastically different. This was truly a team of stars!
To our delight, Abby and her son arrived just one half an hour after our completion. Tears of joy and uncontrollable shaking told us that we had accomplished what we had intended. Abby exclaimed that it was far more than she had expected.
We only hope that as Abby and her son wake up every day in this beautiful and organized oasis, they feel the love and worthiness that is needed for them to have the courage to spread their wings and fly!
~Special thanks to the IAHSP Foundation, Brook Furniture Rental, Cort Furniture Rental, 1-800 Pack Rat and Lyric Turner of Red House Interiors and Staging for the many contributions that made this transformation possible.~
