San Jose Chapter

Testimonials

Hi Barb,

I am a member of the San Jose Chapter of IAHSP. We had the opportunity to create a possitive, healing environment for Future Families. We all truly hope some of the kids that visit their birth parents in these rooms will have happy child hood memories to look back on and that these emotional and difficult times will be a more positive experience for all! I bonded with my fellow ASP's and developed relationships with them at a very special level, I am truly grate full for the experience and look forward to next year!

Future Families
Non-Profit Foster Care And Adoption

On September 16th, 2006, the San Jose Chapter of IAHSP “adopted” Future Families. This non-profit agency has three visitation rooms that desperately needed the talents and services of ASPs. The main purpose of these rooms is to provide a safe and friendly place for children to meet with their birth parents (who have temporarily lost custody), or with potential adoptive parents. Our goal for these displaced kids, was to create a warm and “home-like” environment that encourages family interaction.
We split out chapter into three teams, one for each room. We divided our funds accordingly, and got to work. Everyone chose their own colors and we had the rooms painted the weekend prior to our project day.
The first team decided to create an “Under The Sea” theme. The room is calm and interactive. One whole wall was painted with chalkboard paint and the kids can create their own murals. They recovered part of the existing chairs, creatively painted a bookcase, and made floor pillows for relaxing.
The next team decided on a butterfly theme. One member made a bench from a twin headboard, one of the husbands created an amazing mural, and the room is happy and fun.
The third team created a modern and “cool’ environment that has something for all ages.
They used the existing sofa and washed the cushions, used a donated table and chair set, and created a bookcase with toys for EVERYONE!
The result is three splendidly creative and functional rooms that no one person could have achieved on their own.

This was the response from the Director of Future Families:

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! You and your group are incredible!!!!!!!!! I have walked around the past 30 minutes with my mouth hanging open! Each room is so inviting, cheerful, and comfortable. I can’t thank you enough for all you have done. You all have made such a difference in so many lives. Please send your before and after pictures and we can put them on our website. Oh Karen, you guys did an amazing job and I appreciate it so very much. I am sure the atmosphere in the rooms will set a positive tone to the visits. Wow!!!

If the distraction of the Staged rooms touches one little soul at a time, and makes their experience there at least pleasant and playful - then we, as a group, have contributed greatly.

WOW, WOW, WOW!

I was truly moved upon entering the company on Monday morning.   What an awesome gift of love you gave to this agency and our children!  The transformation was incredible and beautiful.  It is so fun to see creative people doing amazing things…things that I would have never thought of!  Please pass on to all your hard workers that I am so appreciative of their time and efforts given to this project.

With sincere gratitude,
