Hampton Chapter
The members of HIRC, the Hampton, Virginia chapter of IAHSP, staged an apartment that a homeless family had earned as part of a program provided by the ForKids organization. ForKids provides families with housing and comprehensive services to foster permanent, positive family development leading to self-sufficient futures. The apartment was empty except for bulky wooden furniture, and we decided to not only soften the hard edges by staging the home, but also provide the necessities for apartment living. We bargain shopped with our IAHSP funds for the basics and had a little left over for bright and cheery décor as well. This was our first big event as a Chapter since we formed in June, and it felt great to have pulled it off in a very short period of time, with limited resources. It also was a reality check to really understand how much it costs for such organizations to put homes together from bare bones. We were very happy to make such a meaningful community connection!
