After: Girls' Bedroom
Our charity was a girls group home called Project Return in Westport, CT On September 16 we painted almost every room in the house. We brought warmth and light and color to a very bland home with very little character on it's walls. In October, we measured, made lists of items, interviewed the girls for wish lists and finished painting trim and touchups.
This week on Wednesday, we showed up with thousands of dollars worth of items, furniture, bedding, art, shelving, desks, lighting ... you name it and transformed the house while the girls were at school. We had handymen at our sides installing light fixtures and hanging medicine chests, shelves, putting together IKEA dressers. We had landscapers recreate the entire property from corner to corner removing full bushes and replanting new ones minutes later. While they did that we staged the entire home, our largest focus on these girls rooms. Girls who have no other place in the world to call home. Dozen of people from the town and the newspaper and the Board of directors came by half way through the day (by invitation from Project Return) to observe what we were doing, have cider and muffins and cheer us on.
It has been a long and satisfying and incredibly rewarding three months for our chapter. We have build relationships and given of ourselves and seen the domino effect of our positive energy. In between each of our visits, others in the community stepped up to the plate and donated time and services. A painting company painted the entire outside of the house. Someone came and measured and installed upscale wooden blinds. Someone made window treatments for each window. A local artist donated artwork. A carpenter donated his time and built walls and built in shelves in an unfinished basement. Carpet was installed at a discounted rate.
What we started in September 16 turned into a full blown, message of love from the community to the community. We finished yesterday, but only with the project at hand. Not with friendship and relationships and the gifts our heart and souls have gained. IT LOOKS UNBELIEVABLE. UNBELIEVABLE. THE DIFFERENCE IS AMAZING! The staff and supporters of project return are amazed, incredible grateful and overwhelmed at our work and our assistance. It has left them speechless.
What a wonderful thing ... :)
