THE FOLLOWING IS A RECAP OF THE DELAWARE CHAPTER’S COMMUNITY WORLDWIDE STAGING COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
PROJECT: CHILD, INC. — Governor Charles L. Terry Jr. Emergency Home For Children And Youth
PROJECT OVERVIEW: The newly founded Delaware Chapter (with only 4 official members to-date) gathered
donations to stage 5 bedrooms at the emergency facility. We had 7 ASPs who participated in a variety of ways and
together raised $4, 832.88 in goods and services. In addition to improved custom closets, 2 cork boards in each room, a
microwave, color television set, various radios and video games, personal care items, robes, linens and gift bags that
were left at the center for future residents, the 10 current residents each received all new bedding and linens, a robe, art
supplies, personal care items, a portable C D player with pillow speaker and a stuffed animal all in their own rolling
duffle bag.
Although not a part of this shelter, we were also able to leave with CHILD, Inc. several bags of stuffed animals, dolls,
toys and games that were more suited for their Women’s & Children’s Shelter.
ASP PARTICIPANTS: Celeste Williams, DIRC President; Kim Dillon, V.P./Ambassador; MaryLou Powers, Denise
Allen, Barbara Cooper, Gina McCollum Crowder, Libby Burger

Testimonials
"When we arrived at the children's shelter Saturday, I just looked around and thought how
lucky these kids are to have a safe place to go in such a peaceful and beautiful location. It was
fun fixing up the girl's rooms. I really enjoyed working with the women from the DE chapter
too. It was a fun day. While I was working, I was thinking of my friends in Memphis doing
their project too. Then I was thinking about all the chapters worldwide doing something for
someone else. Pretty Powerful !!"

"It felt great to do something for these kids, but of course it was sad too. At one point I looked
at a bag that was packed with a girl’s belongings and thought how painful that chore must
have been. Reminded me of my own daughter and the startling contrast of her packing a bag
happily to go to camp or stay with a friend. It’s good to be reminded of our blessings!"

"Our WWSD experience was fulfilling on so many levels. Because our Chapter is new, our
members had not had a previous opportunity to work together. In what was a very short
timeframe, all of us marshaled our efforts to compile the resources needed to redo the
bedrooms at a local youth emergency shelter. It was exhilarating not only to make a small
difference in the lives of these children, but also to work together as a team with the other
talented Stagers who participated. I’m proud to be President of our very wonderful Delaware
chapter. We’re already making plans for a holiday community service activity!"
