Dallas Chapter
SUCCESS, SUCCESS, SUCCESS. Those are the three best words to express how the World Wide Staging Day went in Dallas on September 16th, 2006. DIRC’s goal was to fully furnish 1 two bedroom apartment at the Family Gateway and provide all the basic supplies needed to set up a home. Well, we surpassed that. We replaced the carpeting and fully furnished 1 apartment. Fully furnished a second apartment and still had donations left over that will go towards helping the center set up one more apartment.
The project this year was far more challenging than our project last year. It proved to be very physically challenging, especially since the apartments we were asked to overhaul were on the second floor and involved moving all the furniture up the stairs and down narrow walkways.
Family Gateway Apartments provides housing for women and children who have, through some misfortune, lost their jobs and their homes...unemployed and lacking food, shelter, friends or any other resources, these families have nowhere to turn. The Family Gateway is there to help families help themselves.
When Jason, Daune and Andrea and Allison went to visit they found it very depressing. The apartments had well worn and broken furniture. They were having a difficult time getting furniture donations. We went to work and asked our DIRC members to seek out donations and they came through big time. We want to especially thank Karen Otto for getting Brooks Furniture to donate furniture for 3 apartments, Teresa Mitchell-Shaw for getting Cort to donate TV’s and Jason for acquiring wall to wall carpeting from one of his clients. We also received very gracious donations from, Nelda Liles, Allison Russell, Lorri Sparr, Vera Lawson and Karen Otto.

Jason volunteered his time and resources to truck the furniture from Brook’s Warehouse to his warehouse and then ultimately to the Family Gateway Apartments. From all of us who worked in the Texas heat Saturday we want to send a special thanks to John DeLoach who is employed by Jason and who is not a Stager or part of our organization but who chose to work with us all day. He tirelesssluy moved furniture up and down stairs in the hot Texas heat. It was an extremely humid day. He was an angel. Thank you John and thanks to Allison, Karen, Lorri, Jacqueline, Barbara, Bette, Teresa, Jason and Andrea for being there on site Saturday to help implement our ambitious plans.

We are extremely grateful to Cort and Brooks for their donations without them the apartments would not have been nearly as beautiful. A special thanks to the Ebby Halliday, Richardson office for their generous contributions. We love Ebby!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this a huge success. Always remember giving back to the community is our best way to fulfill our live and thank those who have helped us along the way!
Sincerely,
